week 1 : How Computation applies to my interests

how computation applies to your interests. This could be a subject you've studied, a job you've worked, a personal hobby, or a cause you care about. What projects do you imagine making this term? What projects do you love?

I would consider myself as a blank canvas for computational and technological stuffs. Even though I never code by myself, I always mesmerize by project that involved programming. For me, computational world seem like magical world that can bring something beyond believe to the real world. Sometimes, people can immerse themselves with the surreal environment. Sometimes, people see the image that can not create by our own brain without any technology. Many times, these experiences lead people to the hidden stories and feelings that can not acquire by reading books or listing stories.

As an event designer and communicator, computational media is an interesting way for me to elevate the world of story telling. It would create not only understanding but also considering. Before I came to pursue my masters, I was working with some social organization with various topics such as environment, equality, immigration etc. I noticed that the reason people do not concern about society is not because they do not know the problem, but because the do not feel the problem. At that time, I wish I could have a proper tools to persuade people into the story I told. I think computational media might be the perfect tools to convince people. Imagine the shop with the interactive screen showing increased amount of dead animal caused by plastic every time customer pull out the plastic bag or projection mapping that immerse participant to a realtime immigration boarder and people is going to experience and feel the problem. People will be mentally moved by this experience more than reading or listening the news on the internet.

I believed that computation combines with powerful story would be the effective media to move the society.

Some of my inspiration :

Teamlab :  is an art collective, interdisciplinary group of ultratechnologists whose collaborative practice seeks to navigate the confluence of art, science, technology, design and the natural world.

www.ecosia.org : plant some tree with your search.

Olafur Eliasson : Installtion artist known for sculpture inspired by nature (mostly lighting)

Dito Manabe : Interactive artist taking a new approach to everyday materials and phenomenon.

Zach Lieberman : New media artist using technology to breaking the boundary between invisible and visible things
